Blue Ridge Parkway: Wildflower Wedding in the Appalachian Mountains

Mountain elopements in Western North Carolina and East Tennessee have a way of slowing time. There is something about the Appalachian Mountains—the misty overlooks, rolling layers of hills and peaks, and quiet beauty—that fills your soul with every second spent there. If the idea of an intimate Blue Ridge Parkway elopement wedding or Smoky Mountain elopement makes your heart go pitter‑patter, keep reading.

In this post, I’ll show you how thoughtfully designed A La Carte wedding flowers can elevate a small mountain ceremony—bringing color, movement, and emotion to a setting that already feels sacred.

A Wildflower-Inspired Mountain Elopement on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Captured beautifully by Presley Castle Photography, Katie and Edward’s June ceremony along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Western North Carolina High Country embraced wildflower details from start to finish. From their pressed‑wildflower cake by Cake Buds in Johnson City to Katie’s delicately embroidered wildflower veil, every detail reflected the wild beauty of nature.

Their celebration is a perfect example of how a mountain elopement doesn’t need excess to feel deeply luxurious—just intentional choices that complement the setting.

Why A La Carte Flowers Are Perfect for Mountain Elopements

I absolutely love designing elopement bouquets and boutonnieres. While lush arches and large installations are undeniably dreamy, there is something incredibly meaningful about creating florals for a quiet exchange of vows surrounded by mountain views.

Knowing these flowers will be carried through overlooks in the NC High Country or the Smoky Mountains—with the wind catching petals and ribbons—feels surreal every single time.

Shirley poppies in all their romantic ruffles made this bouquet such a standout. This bouquet also included the biggest Crichton Honey dahlia that has ever come out of our fields. The peachy glowy pink dahlia blended seamlessly with all the wild textures of delft Blue Nigella, Chocolate Lace Dara, Blushy Zinnias, Sweet William, Larkspur, Bachelor Buttons, Bupleurum and more. Seasonal Wildflower Designs Grown in East Tennessee

Katie’s bouquet was full of movement, texture, and joyful pops of color—everything you’d expect from a wildflower meadow in early summer. While the look feels effortlessly natural, every stem was chosen for durability and beauty on a wedding day.

Each flower in her bouquet was grown on our East Tennessee flower farm, started from seed and tuber, and timed carefully for peak June bloom. Early June is especially magical for wildflower‑inspired designs, thanks to one standout bloom: Shirley Poppies.

These locally grown flowers not only photograph beautifully against mountain views, but they also create a meaningful connection between your wedding day and the season itself.
